Jozy Altidore completes New England Revolution transfer – XenBet

The New England Revolution have completed the signing of striker Jozy Altidore from Toronto FC.

Altidore’s TFC contract was due to run through the 2023 MLS season but the club used their one off-season buyout to release him from the deal.

The former USMNT striker moves to the Supporters’ Shield holders on a contract through 2024, with Toronto still responsible for a portion of his salary until the end of 2023. Altidore is believed to have joined the Revs on a TAM deal.

“We welcome Jozy Altidore to the New England Revolution. Jozy is a player we know well and feel confident that he will be an excellent addition to our team,” Revolution sporting director and head coach Bruce Arena said in a press release. “I believe Jozy can continue to be an outstanding goal scorer, and we will work hard to get him back to full fitness and in good form over the next couple of months.”

A 115-cap United States international, Altidore adds unquestioned pedigree to the Revs’ forward line. During seven seasons with TFC, the veteran striker scored 79 goals in 173 games across all competition, helping the Reds win MLS Cup, Supporters’ Shield, and Canadian Championship titles.

Altidore’s arrival should also provide genuine competition for forwards Gustavo Bou and Adam Buksa – the latter was himself subject to a transfer bid from Europe recently with a summer move on the cards.

New England Revolution begin their 2022 MLS season away to the Portland Timbers on February 26.
