Luka Modric to be offered future backroom role as part of new contract – XenBet

Real Madrid are prepared to give Luka Modric the chance to transition into a backroom role as part of his new contract.

The 36-year-old’s current deal expires in the summer but he has already agreed the terms of an extension, with an announcement expected in the near future.

According to AS, Modric’s extension is for one guaranteed year with the option to extend by a further 12 months if he hit some appearance-based parameters.

As it stands, there are no doubts that he will trigger that extension. Modric remains a key player under Carlo Ancelotti, although his ageing legs have been given the odd rest this season to keep him fresh for the biggest occasions.

Regardless of whether he does remain into 2023/24 or not, Real want Modric around and are prepared to give him a job as part of the club’s hierarchy once he eventually hangs up his boots – which is expected to be whenever his playing days with Los Blancos are up.

Modric is known to be a big fan of analytics and the feeling is that he could work in that department of the club when he eventually retires.

In the meantime, that is in the back of Modric’s mind and he recent confessed that he plans to keep on playing until he is no longer physically capable of doing so.

“I don’t know what age I’m going to play up to, probably around 40, we’ll see,” he said. “I have to take it one step at a time and enjoy what I’m doing.

“I feel very good physically, which is very important, and also mentally. I’m at a very big club, the best in the world, and I’m working to maintain this level for as many years as possible.

“The truth is that talking about years is very difficult. I am about to turn 37 and I feel very good, really. I have worked outside Valdebebas and with the club on the points I can improve, on how to keep my physique. We’ll see when I’ll eventually retire, but the later the better.”
