Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara is back in training after a combination of illness and injury kept him out for seven weeks.
The Spaniard, who battled a calf problem earlier in the campaign, tested positive for Covid-19 midway through December, before a hip problem sidelined him for a little while longer.
He hasn’t been seen since December 16’s 3-1 victory over Newcastle United, after which Thiago missed a total of ten games across the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
However, he is now back in training and The Athletic note that Thiago is desperate to make up for lost time, although he will not be rushed straight back into action after such an extended period out.
Liverpool are in FA Cup fourth-round action against Cardiff City on Sunday. It is not yet clear whether Thiago will be fit enough to feature in that one, but with a hectic schedule coming up which includes Premier League meetings with Leicester City and Burnley and a Champions League tie against Inter, his return comes at an ideal time.

Jurgen Klopp’s side had been stretched in midfield, with Naby Keita also away with Guinea at the African Cup of Nations and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain playing further forward to cope with the absences of both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
Alongside Thiago, there is cautious optimism that young Harvey Elliott could see some action against Cardiff, having also returned to training following his nasty ankle injury in the early weeks of the season.
New signing Luis Diaz is due to report to the club following the conclusion of his international duty with Colombia.
